Set in the fields of the San Joaquin Valley in the
shadow of the Tehachapi Mountains, Johnston Farms
is a four-generation farming operation dedicated to
giving our customers a taste experience that’s second
to none – fruits and vegetables that don’t just look
good but provide a flavor experience our customers
will remember.

Shortly after World War II, John C. Johnston retired
from the Southern Pacific Railroad in Oregon and
moved his family to Bakersfield to grow potatoes.
He settled in the Edison area of Kern County where
he founded Johnston Farms.

Knowing our land would be ideal for other commodities
as well as potatoes, we planted our first Navel orange
grove in 1963, followed by Satsuma mandarins in the
early 70’s and red grapefruit in the 80’s. We added
Bell peppers in 1986.
We pack over one-million cartons of our premium
citrus from November to April each year. From three
packinghouses in Edison, California, we ship our
commodities to retailers in the U.S., Canada, Asia,
Australia and the Indian Sub-Continent.
Johnston farms also started selling citrus gift packs
directly to consumers in 1986. Today, we ship all
over the United States during the holiday season.
You can order them by phone, fax, mail order or
on our website.
“All it takes is one taste.” Dennis Johnston

We’re known worldwide for the quality of our
products. Taste, texture, appearance, nutrition –
the Blue Jay label and Johnston Farms stand for
superior quality every day of the year.
